Rule One Whey Protein Blend Review

Company Profile

Rule One is a company that generally produces rather expensive products. All of their products are extremely high quality, but that is why they are more on the expensive side than other competing products.

The reason we chose to write this Rule One Whey Protein Blend review is because its different from the rest of their products. Rule One designed it to be a less expensive product for those who can not afford the super high quality protein. It’s interesting to see that a company is willing to accommodate their customers so much that they invented an entirely new protein powder just so their customers would be able to afford it.

Is it less high quality than their original top-notch product, R1 Protein? Yes, but that’s the point. Read on to find out what makes this product a viable option for those of you who are trying to save a few bucks.

Rule One Whey Blend Ingredients & Nutritional Facts

The Protein Blend: The first and perhaps the most important consideration with any protein powder is the protein blend itself. Companies often use a protein blend that lacks purity because it saves them money and they think their customers wont know the difference.

The blend in this protein powder is not as good as the blend in their high quality R1 Protein product, but its still better than 90% of the BS we see out there on a daily basis. This blend consists of whey protein isolate, whey protein hydrolysate, and whey protein concentrate.

Generally, with protein blends, you want to see as short of a list as possible. Any more than 3 ingredients in the protein blend is too much. The two purest forms of protein in existence are whey protein isolate and whey protein hydrolysate so ideally, that is all you would want to see in the protein blend.

Unfortunately, they are also the most expensive forms of protein so it is very rare to see companies use strictly those two forms. However, Rule One actually does use strictly these two in their super high quality protein powder, R1 Protein.

R1 Whey Blend however also includes whey protein concentrate, and in fact, the blend consists primarily of whey protein concentrate. So its not the purest blend out there, but they use WPC in order to lower costs for their customers.

So if you’re looking for an inexpensive protein powder that can still be effective, look no further.

BCAAS: Another extremely important consideration when it comes to protein powders is BCAAs (branched chain amino acids). You want to make absolutely sure that your protein powder contains a sufficient amount of BCAAs.

BCAAs are essential for proper recovery and maximum growth. The protein alone will likely not get the job done anywhere near as quickly or as effectively, so make sure whatever protein powder you choose contains BCAAs. R1 Whey Blend does contain BCAAs, and plenty of them. This is a protein powder that really can aid recovery and growth.

Equally as important as what goes into your protein powder is what does NOT go into your protein powder. You want to leave out things like fat, sugar, carbs, calories, and sodium. The lower, the better. The calorie count on this protein powder is at 130 per serving, which is very low. It is not the lowest we have seen, but it is definitely low enough to help ensure you don’t gain any fat.

Speaking of fat, this protein powder contains 2 grams of fat per serving, This is in the top 3 lowest fat counts that we have reviewed thus far. Make sure whatever protein powder you buy has low fat to ensure that you can only gain LEAN muscle.

Next up: sugar. R1 Whey Blend contains only 1 gram of sugar per serving, which is obviously super low…good stuff. Now for the ingredient that many unwisely disregard: sodium. Sodium will cause you to gain fat if the count per serving is too high, so be aware of how much sodium your protein powder contains.

This one has 70 milligrams per serving, which is pretty solid. The lowest we have seen thus far is 50 I believe, but anything below 75 is excellent. Once you start to get close to 100, that’s where you want to maybe avoid that protein powder.

Lastly, this protein powder contains 1 gram of carbohydrates per serving, which is again very low. Overall, this is a very solid nutrition panel. No complaints here.

Effectiveness

R1 Whey Blend has a lot of potential to be a serious result-producing protein powder. Truthfully, any product produced by either Rule One or Optimum Nutrition is going to produce results. These are companies that use high quality ingredients and have very clean nutrition labels.

The clean protein blend and BCAA count is can help lead to effective muscle recovery and growth. The fact that it does not contain any unwanted ingredients can help ensure that you don’t gain any fat and that the muscle you gain is lean as can be. Again, no complaints in this department. Although its not as good as their other protein powder, definitely another solid product by Rule One.

Taste

This is a protein powder that you do not have to sacrifice taste for nutrition in order to take. Very nutritious, but still great tasting. Sodium is the primary contributor to taste, and here we have 70 milligrams per serving, which is plenty enough to ensure good taste without going overboard on sodium.

Another thing you can trust is that Rule One and ON will get the taste right. These companies are very successful and very popular, and they did not get that way by making products that taste bad. The consensus amongst our team is that the chocolate is the best flavor, followed by vanilla.

The Pros

  • 24 Grams of protein in every serving
  • Fairly clean protein blend
  • Contains BCAAs
  • Does not contain unwanted ingredients
  • Effective for recovery and growth
  • Tastes great
  • Extremely inexpensive

The Cons

  • The protein blend is not ideal, however that is what makes the product so affordable

Summary

Overall, we have another awesome product from Rule One. Effective, nutritious, tasty, and risk-free. The protein blend is not the best that it could be due to the fact that R1 sacrificed purity in order to make this protein powder more affordable than their other one.

For those of you looking to spend the least amount of money possible on a protein powder without having to risk buying an ineffective product, this is perfect for you. If you’re looking for higher quality, check out our reviews for the #1 rank: Rule One Protein.
