What Is Hydro Whey?

Hydro Whey is a brand of whey based protein powder that is made by the company Optimum Nutrition. This company prides themselves on their creation of hydrolyzed whey protein peptides which are supposed to be the most advanced protein they have ever developed. What makes this protein so ideal is the act that it is even more easily digested by the body than whey alone. Whey already has a reputation as being one of the best protein sources on the market today, so for Optimum Nutrition to make it even better is a pretty big deal.

How Does Hydro Whey Work?

Hydro Whey works by utilizing Platinum hydrowhey which is Optimum Nutrition’s latest innovation in the protein world. Hydrolyzing whey protein isolates allow big proteins to be broken down into easily digestible smaller pieces. This process is important because the faster your body can process and digest these proteins, the faster your muscles can utilize them to rebuild and recover.

Hydro Whey Ingredients

Protein Blend: When looking through the protein blend of a supplement, the one thing you want to see is the name of a high quality protein AND NOTHING ELSE. Many different brands will try to trick you in to believing that the more sources of protein that you find in a blend, the better. This is false. The more sources of protein in a blend, the more diluted the high quality protein they are using becomes. Trying to find a blend with the majority of it being whey protein isolate or hydrolysate, is your best bet at getting the most you possibly can out of your workout. At 30 grams in a serving, you are getting 60% of your daily protein needs in one scoop, which is not bad at all.

BCAA: Branched chain amino acids can be found in all proteins naturally. Unfortunately, they do not naturally carry a very significant amount of BCAA. To make up for that many brands have started adding additional BCAA to help your body get the maximum amount of nutrition and protein it needs to function at its peak potential. The three most important BCAA you are sure to find everywhere are L-Leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-valine. These three amino acids are extremely important in helping you build lean muscle, helping you recover after a workout, and also keeping you energized throughout your day.

Nutritional Information: In one serving of Hydro Whey, you can expect to find:

  • Calories: 150
  • Total Fat: 1g
  • Cholesterol: 10mg
  • Sodium: 180mg
  • Total Carbohydrates: 4g
  • Protein: 30g

The nutritional information from Hydro Whey does not stand out among its many competitors. It has a fair amount of protein, and is not too unhealthy which is definitely a benefit. Other than that, it is pretty much like any other protein powder on the market today.

The Pros

  • Good for muscle growth
  • Boosts recovery time
  • OK taste

The Cons

  • Better options available

Hydro Whey Conclusion

The bottom line is, while the protein used in Hydro Whey is pretty impressive, it does not really stand out as being that great of a product when compared to higher quality protein brands. It probably does the job it is supposed to, but at this price point we have definitely found better options. For the best protein shakes you can buy, check out the Top 10 Best Protein Drinks.
