Alpha Isolate Review: Is This Protein Powder Any Good?

by Joe Costello, CNC | Protein Powders

Alpha Isolate protein powder jarAlpha Isolate is a protein powder made to help you put on lean muscle while burning fat. It is meant to work best as a post workout so that your body can receive all the sustenance it needs to grow properly and effectively. Continue reading this Alpha Isolate review to find out why it did not make the list of the top 10 Best Protein Powders of the year.

Benefits of Alpha Isolate

These are the main benefits you can expect to experience from Alpha Isolate:

  • Increased rate of lean muscle growth
  • Fat loss
  • Reduced recovery times

What Is Alpha Isolate?

Alpha Isolate is a protein powder made of whey protein isolate by the company Modern Man Nutrition. It comes in two flavors including Chocolate Fudge Ripple, and Honey Granola. The interesting thing about this protein is the discrepancy in prices on Amazon for the differing flavors. Chocolate Fudge Ripple is $12.50 per pound, while Honey Granola is $20.00 a pound. Upon further inspection, they had almost identical nutrition labels, and the same amount of protein per serving.

How Does Alpha Isolate Work?

Alpha Isolate works similarly to any other protein supplement on the market. It uses a blend of protein that is easier for your body to digest, so your muscles can get everything they need when they need it. While some protein powders work best before your workout, Alpha Isolate is designed as a post workout protein powder.

Alpha Isolate Ingredients

Protein Blend

The protein blend in Alpha Isolate is made up of the second best source of protein on the market today, whey protein isolate. Second only to whey protein hydrolysate, whey protein isolate is a great source of rapid digesting amino acids that your muscles will be able to benefit from quickly.

Whey protein hydrolysate is much better than whey protein isolate, because it comes in a form of whey that is already one step broken down in order to be digested by your muscles even faster.

The lowest quality form of whey is whey protein concentrate. Whey protein concentrate is still better than sources of protein that don’t come from whey, but does not have anywhere near the same amount of benefits as whey protein hydrolysate, and whey protein isolate.

Branched Chained Amino Acids

There are specific types of amino acids that come with high quality protein sources, and branched chained amino acids are one of those types. These amino acids can help drastically decrease your recovery time, while also providing your body with more energy. It is a great idea to purchase branched chained amino acids separately, and make a drink with them to use during your workout.

There is a scandalous tactic being used in the protein industry known as nitrogen spiking. This practice uses branched chained amino acids, to trick the nitrogen test that is responsible for determining how much protein there is per serving.

While branched chained amino acids do have nitrogen that are confused for complete protein sources, they do not provide the same benefits as complete proteins. Companies do this to make the claim that they have more protein per serving, than they actually do.

Nutritional Information

The following nutritional information can be found in one serving of Alpha Isolate:

  • Calories: 125
  • Cholesterol: 5 mg
  • Sodium: 77 mg
  • Potassium: 193 mg
  • Total Carbohydrates: 3 g
  • Protein: 27 g
  • Calcium: 96 mg

These nutritional facts are overall pretty good. 27 grams of protein is definitely a good sign, and none of the other nutritional statistics are really too far out from what’s considered normal in the protein industry.

Pros of Alpha Isolate

  • Has a high amount of protein per serving
  • Digests quickly
  • Easy to use

Cons of Alpha Isolate

  • Big price discrepancy among flavors
  • Too sweet
  • Oddly textured

Alpha Isolate Conclusion

The bottom line is, out of the many whey protein isolate supplements on the market, Alpha Isolate isn’t one that consumers liked the most. In addition to that, there are other protein supplements that have better blends which include whey protein hydrolysate, the best source of protein on the market.
