Monster Mass is a good product, but because of the slightly off carb to protein ratio and because of the obnoxious amount of fat, it is not as good as Cytosport’s other mass gainer called CytoGainer. Read on to find out why this product does NOT rank amongst our top 5 Best Mass Gainers.
Company Profile
Cytosport is another company that has quite a few products that made it onto this site. Very few companies make it on this website more than once, and Cytosport has to date three different products on the site. Obviously, they have some very solid products.
Monster Mass Ingredients
The all-important carb to protein ratio in this product is about 1.3 to 1. This is pretty good, however it could use a little more carbs per serving. With 630 calories in every serving, it’s not the healthiest mass gainer out there, but it certainly is not the least healthy. Six-hundred is pretty standard for calories.
It has 125 mg of cholesterol in every serving which is fairly average…nothing impressive. Every serving only contains 7 grams of sugar, which is pretty low. However, it contains a whopping 18 grams of fat in every serving.
That is our main issue with this product. If it did not contain so much fat, it would be a much healthier product and probably would have ranked higher. Also, Monster Mass contains several types of protein including whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate, calcium caseinate, milk protein isolate, whey protein hydrolysate, and micellar casein…not the purest protein blend out there.
As you probably know by now whey protein isolate and hydrolysate is the purest form of protein, and ideally, you want this to be the only type of protein the product contains.
Effectiveness
Monster Mass could be moderately effective, if that. The carb to protein ratio is a little low, the calories are a little high, and there’s way too much fat. This product could be effective in the gaining of fat, but I’m not sure I can say the same for muscle mass. Any muscle that you do gain might not end up being very lean muscle.
Taste
With only 7 grams of sugar and 240 mg of sodium in every serving, it is hard to judge strictly off of the nutrition label whether or not this product tastes good. Luckily, I have tried this product and can say that it tastes great. Though I would never personally buy this product, it is not because of the taste.
The Pros
- Overall the nutrition panel is pretty solid
- Low sugar
- Decent carb to protein ratio
- Low sodium
- Tastes good
The Cons
- Very high fat
- Not a very pure protein blend
Is Monster Mass worth it? Our conclusion
Overall this product is not one that we would personally recommend. If we had to describe it with one word, it would be “average.” There are really no outstanding features of this product, but there are also no astonishingly bad features.
It is just an overall OK product but does not have the characteristics that would make it one of our top-reviewed gainers. Like I said, I wouldn’t recommend it, but its still an overall solid mass gainer. Check out our #1 ranked mass gainer to see a truly impressive supplement.
